For our readers in Portland, Maine

Would you like to house a Sea Dog this year?

Just a public service reminder that the Portland Sea Dogs are looking for host families for some of their players.

Host families usually charge reduced-rate rent or none at all. The players are here from April through early September (although they are on the road half of the time, and usually spend most of their other time at Hadlock Field).

Aw geez, that's real swell. Old-timey and whatnot. I am unable to confirm at this time whether this is actually Argenis Diaz playing coy. It'd be pretty neat to house one of those guys, no? Sea Dogs alumni include Josh Beckett, Jonathan Papelbon, Hanley Ramirez, Clay Buchholz and Jacoby Ellsbury. The folks who housed them back in the day must have some great stories to tell. Imagine the dinner table conversations with Papelbon. I smell a book idea! There's a Future Big Leaguer Sleeping in My Guest Bedroom: Tales From the Kind Denizens of Portland, Maine, Who Housed Sea Dogs Before They Were Big Leaguers. Has a nice ring to it, eh?
